Birds near Hyderabad ( Pocharam Lake)

Made my first exclusive birding outing in Feb with a few colleagues to Pocharam leak near Hyderabad. We were keen to catch the migratory birds and Flamingoes that usually visit this time of the year. Unfortunately there were none.

However we could catch quite a few resident birds on our way and back......

Birds of Rajasthan

Rather late in posting this trip update. Had my office offsite in Sangawan village in a desert resort called Desert trails very near to Jaipur. The resort happened to be a haven for birds ( being the only place with food and water I guess). This was early January and temperatures went sub zero at night.

I tried my 300mm f/2.8 for the first time. Here are the shots.

Never realized deserts usually have such rich variety of birds.  A few shots in and around the place. A very productive 3 days :)

Birds of Kolkata

I happened to be in Kolkata for my winter vacation. While staying in Salt lake I happened to visit " Bon Bitan" ( forest garden) regularly for my morning walks. I was amazed to see the variety of birds seen in winter. Tried to capture a few when I carried my lens.

Since it surrounds "jheels" water birds like Heron, egrets, Kingfishers and cormorants were common. Bee eaters, woodpeckers, Koels, Drongos, parrots were also seen in abundance. I was surprised to see Golden Orioles and Roller birds.

Have tried to capture a few here:

Also made a visit to " Sabuj deep" ( Green Island) a delta in the Ganges near to Balagarh in the district of Hooghly. While it looked like a common picnic spot and did not get to see too many birds, I did see the Shikra, Treepies and Drongos in abundance.
